Quartech
Systems Ltd. Helps B.C. Hospitals Protect Patient Privacy

Quartech Systems has developed a new software system
for Fraser Health that helps them more effectively monitor access to patient
information.
The automated software enhances monitoring and
reporting of access to sensitive patient information through information
systems that provide health care workers with data about a patient's medical
history.
The software will compare data from information
systems such as Pathnet, a web-based electronic system that delivers
prescription history and diagnostic laboratory information, with admission
records.
A request for patient information must be matched by
a corresponding hospital admission record within 24 hours. If it is not, the
request is flagged for investigation by hospital administrators. The software
allows the hospital to automate the process for meeting auditing requirements
with minimal impact on resources.
While Quartech developed this system to manage Fraser
Health's patient information systems, the software is flexible enough to be
adapted to any of the numerous information systems used by hospitals throughout
British Columbia.
Quartech's software is being used at four of Fraser
Health's hospitals, and will eventually scale up to all of Fraser Health's 12
hospitals accessing Pathnet and Pharmanet in their Emergency Departments.
Fraser Health serves nearly one-third of the B.C. population.
