QUARTECH NEWS RELEASE
BC Government Directory Open Source Application Announcement
Quartech develops mobile-friendly app in one week to easily email and phone BC government employees from anywhere on any device
VICTORIA, BC (November 8, 2018) – Quartech, a leader in public sector Agile/DevOps, open source solution delivery, has released a mobile-friendly BC government directory application as open source under the Apache license. The app is a convenient tool to search the BC government directory from anywhere on any device. Searching is dynamic and instant. Once you have found who you want to contact, an email or phone call is a tap away.

As an IT consulting firm with BC public sector as a key client, Quartech wanted to conveniently access BC government employee contact information, especially from our mobile phones.
“As an account executive, I needed mobile access to the BC government directory. I decided to lead a one-week code challenge to prepare our team for the next Agile project,” says account executive and solution architect at Quartech, Brad Head. “Building something useful in a week was rewarding to the team.”
The app was built with Node.JS, Angular4, and Docker and works on any browser or mobile device. The team followed Agile software development methodology using DevOps deployment tools.
Thanks to the Government of BC’s open data initiative operated by Data BC, the app consumes an XML file published daily by Data BC. “We couldn’t have built this application without Open Data and support from Data BC,” said Brad Head.
Brad went on to say, “Quartech achieved our desired value from building this app, and many of us use the app daily to reach our clients. As time permits, we hope to work through the roadmap of planned enhancements. For now, it is time to turn it over to the public so that the community can hopefully improve on it or use it as a basis for other directory apps.”
